About Dungeons and Dragons Online
Enhancements
Levels are the major milestones of character development, but while working to move to the next one, character progress through four ranks in each level. At each of these ranks, they gain an action point, which can spent at the trainers to purchase enhancements.
Enhancements are bonuses to a character's Abilities and Feats. Each class and race have their own set of enhancements, which augment those characteristics that the character already excels in. For example, Rogues may gain bonuses to their Move Silently and Hide skills, Barbarians may extend the duration of their Rage feat, or Dwarves may become even heartier with a Constitution bonus.
Action Points are gained at each rank of a level. Every Action Point that you gain in a level must be spent during that level. If you move to the next level without spending action points, you will lose them.
Characters have four enhancement slots. If they wish to purchase a new enhancement after they fill up all four slots, they must discard one before they can buy a new one. Most enhancements can be upgraded at different character levels. For example, Halfling Heroic Companion can be upgraded at each level to gain greater effectiveness (and thereby allowing you to discard the lower level version of Heroic companion).
