About Dungeons and Dragons Online
Skills
Skills determine how well your character can perform certain tasks, such as healing, casting spells while under fire, and more. All classes start with a certain number of skill points that can be used to learn or improve skills (determined by class and Ability scores). You can put more points into any skill as your character gains levels. In the game display, skills marked with an asterisk (*) are "cross-class" skills, which are not typical for your character's class, and therefore cost twice as many skill points to raise.

While in the game, you can view tooltips for each skill by moving your cursor over a skill icon; this will display a short description of that skill. When selecting skills while creating your character, the box on the right provides information about what skills are most important for the class you've chosen.

The ability that modifies each skill is listed in the Skill Points chart. If an ability score is too low, for example, you may have a negative number assigned to a skill. This is listed in the Ability Mod column. Some actions can be attempted even when you have no skill points invested. Others require you to have at least one point invested before you can use them.

As your character advances consider your skill point allocations carefully. If you wish to build a balanced character you will need to invest in a variety of skills. This versatility will come at the expense of the benefits your character would experience by specializing in fewer skills and raising each selected skill to a higher level.

Not sure where to look for details on a specific skill? Consult the full skill list for complete catalog of the available skills in the game.
